Features
Pantry and barcodes
Every item has an amount, a storage location, a category and a best-before date, even several packages with different dates. A barcode fetches the name and product data from Open Food Facts, and when you stock up Hamsterbacke suggests a best-before date.
Receipts
A photo or PDF of the receipt is enough: Hamsterbacke reads the lines, matches them to your items and books them in once you confirm. Earlier receipts and their shops stay available.
Best-before dates and notifications
Hamsterbacke tells you what expires soon, at the times you choose: by email, in the app, as a calendar or to your smart home. "This week" shows what should be used up first.
Recalls
Hamsterbacke checks your pantry against official recall notices, for example from lebensmittelwarnung.de, and tells you when something you have might be affected.
Shopping list
Give an item a minimum stock; when it drops below, it lands on the shopping list. The statistics show numbers about your pantry.
Recipes
Hamsterbacke suggests recipes that use up what expires this week: from the Wikibooks Cookbook or from your saved recipes. It measures a recipe from a website against your pantry.
Preparedness
Hamsterbacke compares your pantry with the official recommendation for an emergency supply and shows what is still missing.
Household
Invite others by email and keep the pantry together. Whoever manages the household invites people and sets up devices; whoever leaves hands that role on.
Smart home and shelf device
If you like, notifications go to your smart home via webhook or MQTT. A barcode scanner at the shelf books items in and out with its own key.
Apps
Hamsterbacke runs in the browser, on your phone too. Apps for Android and iOS are in the works; they get the camera and receipt recognition on the device.
Hamsterbacke is a free beta: it works, and some things are still changing.
